Storage Tips
Self Storage Advice
Storing your belongings properly can help protect them and make accessing them later much easier. At Tampa Bay Self Storage, our indoor, air-conditioned storage units help protect items from Florida’s heat and humidity, but using smart packing and organization techniques can make your storage experience even better. Here are some helpful tips to make the most of your storage unit.
Choose sturdy boxes that can safely hold your items and stack easily. Boxes of similar sizes help create stable stacks and maximize the available space in your unit.
Label boxes on multiple sides so you can quickly find what you need without opening everything. Consider grouping boxes by room, season, or category.
Wrap delicate items such as glassware, dishes, and decorations with packing paper, bubble wrap, or foam padding. Place heavier items at the bottom of boxes and lighter items on top.
Take apart large furniture like bed frames, tables, and shelving units when possible. This saves space and makes transporting items into your storage unit easier.
Place items you may need sooner toward the front of your unit. This will prevent you from having to move everything around later.
Leave a small path inside your storage unit so you can reach items stored in the back without unloading the entire space.
Portable shelving units can help keep boxes organized and allow you to use vertical space more efficiently.
Even in climate-controlled units, it's a good idea to store items slightly off the ground using pallets or shelves. This improves airflow and keeps items protected.
Make sure furniture, appliances, and clothing are clean and fully dry before placing them in storage. This helps prevent odors and protects your belongings.
Use furniture covers, blankets, or plastic wrap to protect couches, mattresses, and wood furniture from dust while in storage.
